Message Notes
Heaven’s Glory
Main Scripture: Luke 2:8-20
Supporting Scripture: Exodus 33, Exodus 34:5-7, John 1:14, 2 Corinthians 4:6
Christmas is not just about a baby in a manger; it’s about heaven bringing the full weight of God’s glory—His presence, character, and saving love—into our ordinary lives through Jesus. God’s glory moves from dangerous and distant to near and transforming, inviting us to let Him invade every corner of our lives.
Show & Tell of Glory: Uses a grade school “show and tell” story to frame glory as God’s “Show and Tell”—His presence made visible and His character made knowable.
Moses & the Problem of Glory: In Exodus 33–34, Moses can only glimpse God’s back because unfiltered glory would destroy sinners, setting up the tension that only Jesus will resolve.
Shepherds in the Spotlight: Low-status, unclean shepherds stand inside the same glory Moses longed to see—and live. Glory surrounds the overlooked and announces “good news of great joy…for all people.”
Glory Wrapped in Flesh: In Jesus, God doesn’t turn down His holiness; He makes it touchable—“full of grace and truth.” The cross absorbs the deadly weight of glory so we can stand in God’s presence without being destroyed.
Glory in Your Tuesday: Glory gives weight, awakens longing, reorders fear, and comforts grief. It invades work, relationships, struggle, and mundane routines—turning “fields” into holy ground.
Advent Practice: Daily prayer: “Lord, show me Your glory,” and a posture of watching for God’s Show & Tell in conviction, beauty, Scripture, conversations, and unexpected places.
Take it another step:
When you hear the word “glory,” what comes to mind—and how does this message reshape that picture?
Where do you most feel the “weight” of lesser glories (stress, approval, success) crowding out God’s glory in your life?
How have you seen God’s glory show up in an ordinary “field” of your life—work, family, struggle, or grief?
What might it look like, practically, to pray “Lord, show me Your glory” this week and stay open to His Show & Tell?
